The Eyes Have it - Gourd Art by John Pointek

Some Adjectives are overused such as Awesome! Fabulous! Wonderful! Super!  When it comes to the art of Duke Pointek, these superlatives really do apply.   He harmoniously blends textures, color, carving, coiling, and pyrography that draws us into his creations.  As portrayed by this practitioner of  airbrush art and photo-realism, the animals stare into our eyes and we expect them to blink.

Another unexpected feature is the use of pine needle coiling as a sculptural feature and not as a rim or basket.  The playful sculpture "Are we there yet" features a snail family that attracts the most attention from visitors.

The coiling technique as a rim or basket is used in other works which also feature carving and inlay.
